The Sussex Village Board approved changes Nov. 22 in how elected officials and committee members are paid.
Under the new ordinance, the village president will be paid $6,600 annually and trustees will be paid $4,400 annually. In addition, members of the Architectural Review Board, Finance and Personnel Committee, Park and Recreation Board, Plan Commission and Public Works Committee be paid $300 annually; members of the Community Development Authority, Fire Commission, Public Safety and Welfare Committee and Water Commission will be paid $150 annually while members of the Board of Appeals, Board of Fire Appeals, Board of Review, Library Board, Senior Advisory Board, and ad hoc committees or work groups will receive no pay.
The changes for elected officials will take effect with the next term for each position while changes for committees will take effect Jan. 1.
Village President Greg Goetz explained the new pay ranges will replace a previous method of paying officials on a per meeting basis.
“Easier accounting, easier to take care of, easier to budget,” Goetz said.
In another matter, the board approved a resolution outlining wages and stipends for paid on call Fire Department staff for next year. Goetz explained that the wages for the paid on call staff have been approved separately from other village staff. As the village merges the paid on call staff with the village’s general system, the resolution may not be needed in future years. But for now, the resolution was needed to document pay ranges for those positions.
