Jex appointed to Germantown School Board

Erin Jex will fill the vacancy created on the Germantown School Board by the resignation of Michael Schultz.
Schultz recently resigned due to a move outside the district. Jex and Barb Mendenhall applied for the opening on the board. The board selected Jex during its Feb. 22 meeting.
This will be the second time Jex has been appointed to the board. She was appointed to fill a vacancy in September 2007 but was defeated in the April 2008 election by Cari Brust. Jex then lost an election last year to incumbent Tom Bowe.
When reached for comment after the meeting, Jex said she went "back and forth" before deciding to apply for the post.
"You just don't 'sort of' do this," she said. Jex noted that serving on the board is a big time commitment.
While it's been almost two years since Jex was on the board, she did agree with a reporter's assessment that many of the issues then are still of a concern to the board. In addition, new issues have arisen since that time that the board is seeking to address. Jex referenced one of the issues in her letter to the board.
“The hiring of the superintendent is of particular interest to me. It’s an opportunity for the district to hire a person to help our district move forward with new ideas for our rapidly changing society,” she said.
Jex is a math teacher at Badger Middle School in West Bend.
