Richfield recall could cost between $3,000 and $10,000

A recall election in the village of Richfield would cost the village between $3,000 to $10,000, according to information from Village Administrator Josh Schoemann.

A group called Richfield Citizens for Responsible Government is seeking a recall against Trustee Rock Brandner. Last week a spokeman for the group said they would seek to have more than the 1,362 signatures to initiate the recall submitted to the village by July 15.

When reached for comment July 12, Schoemann said that if a recall was held in conjunction with another election, it would cost the village between $3,000 to $5,000. If the election were held on its own — which Schoemann said is "more than likely" — it would cost the village between $8,000 to $10,000.

In a recall election, Brandner would automatically be on the ballot. If more than two candidates submitted papers, a primary election would be necessary, which would double the cost of the election, Schoemann said.
