Yoga Class Designed for Older Adults
The Arboretum Retirement Community is offering a program called Chair Yoga, which is part of their Life Long Learning Curriculum. This three week session will be held Tuesdays from 1:30-2:30 p.m. starting Sept. 7,14 and 21. There is a nominal fee of $10 for all three sessions.
Yoga originated in India and is often associated with the practice of meditation. Today, Yoga (or Hatha Yoga) is commonly known as a form of exercise. Contrary to what many people believe, Yoga is not just for the younger set. If you are a senior, you can and will benefit from incorporating basic yoga stretches into your daily routine. Yoga easily adapts to your individual fitness level and abilities: it benefits your body, makes the mind calmer, and lifts your spirits to know you can participate in an exercise routine that fits your needs. All exercises are done in or with a chair. No experience required!
Instructor David Dickenson is a nationally certified and state licensed massage therapist. He graduated from the Lakeside School of Massage Therapy, has a degree in Health Science from the University of Utah, and is a registered yoga teacher. His goal is to provide relaxation, stress reduction and pain management for his clients utilizing yoga instruction and massage therapy techniques.
If you are interested in registering for this course, contact Thea at 262-253-0909 for more information. To reserve your seat in the class registration is required.
The Arboretum is a Laureate Group retirement community that offers a breadth of programming – social, spiritual, educational – to keep older adults active and engaged. Their Life Long Learning curriculum is supplemental to the monthly activity calendar and offers innovative opportunities to allow older adults to explore new interests and stay "Young at Heart."
