Chargers defense stymies Falls

Hamilton's defense didn't rest against Menomonee Falls Jan. 6, as the Chargers held Menomonee Falls scoreless for almost eight minutes in the second quarter to win 36-19.

Menomonee Falls held Hamilton scoreless for the opening four minutes of the first quarter, as free throws by Erin Crownover and Mikayla Robertson gave Menomonee Falls an early lead. Two baskets by Hamilton's Mackenzie Latt tied the game by the 3:41 mark of the first quarter and Hamilton outscored Menomonee Falls 7-2 for the rest of the quarter.

Three point baskets by Mackenzie and Danielle Latt started an 11-2 run in the second quarter by Hamilton. Menomonee Falls cut into the Hamilton lead at the end of the quarter, as Amber Bullock was fouled while scoring a layup. She converted the free throw to make the score 23-13 at halftime.

A layup by Crownover at the 5:10 mark of the third quarter was the last points Menomonee Falls would score until the 5:11 mark of the fourth quarter, with Hamilton scoring eight points in between. When Rachel Defnet of Menomonee Falls converted two free throws with 5:11 left in the game Hamilton had a 35-17 lead. Hamilton was able to run out the clock with extended possessions the rest of the way.
