Hamilton loses at Central, several players return

The Hamilton girls basketball team lost to Brookfield Central Feb. 5, 48-32.  Courtney Lemon led Hamilton with seven points.

Four players who were not suited up for the Hamilton game against Menomonee Falls Feb. 2 — Jamie Destache, Alissa Nagel, Erika Winner and Dani Lehman — did play against Brookfield Central. When asked about the roster changes  after the Feb. 2 game, Hamilton Coach Dan Carey said: "I'm not going into specifics."

Destache scored six points, Nagel scored two points while Winner scored one point against Brookfield Central.

Hamilton went on a 12-1 run in the latter stages of the second quarter on the way to a 45-31 win over Menomonee Falls Feb. 2.

"We had some great leadership tonight from our upperclassmen and we had some young players we had to bring up for the game. They really did the job," Hamilton Coach Dan Carey said afterward.

Hamilton — playing with a revamped roster, including three new players — scored the first six points of the game but Menomonee Falls rallied and trailed 14-12 after Rachel Defnet converted two free throws with 5:11 left in the second quarter. The Chargers then scored 12 of the next 13 points to take a 26-13 lead at halftime.

The Chargers held a lead of more than 10 points throughout the second half. A layup by Erin Crownover of Menomonee Falls cut the lead to 28-17 early in the third quarter but Stephanie Kirchner scored on a layup and was fouled, converting the free throw to extend the lead to more than 10 points.

Carey noted his team had 19 turnovers but still was able to hold off a comeback by Menomonee Falls.

Afterward, Menomonee Falls Coach Craig Amundson noted his team didn't shoot very well, missing several close range opportunities. Menomonee Falls pressed Hamilton early in the game.

"We wanted to get them in the game early," Amundson said of the early press.

Hamilton played with a revamped roster that included Taylor Hahn, Lauren Krohn and Jenny Shernell.  Five players who were listed on previous rosters — Kerry Sullivan, Jamie Destache, Erika Winner, Dani Lehman and Alissa Nagel— were not listed on the Chargers gametime roster against Menomonee Falls.

"I had to bring up a few kids up, I'm not going to go into specifics," Carey said.
